Specificity (Detailed): In Western blotting of normal erythrocyte membranes, the antibody labels a major band of 40 kDa corresponding to GPC and a number of bands of higher molecular weight presumed to represent complexes containing GPC. Erythrocyte membranes from the Leach phenotype are not labeled by the antibody (4). In agglutination assay, the antibody agglutinates normal red blood cells, but does not react with red blood cells of the Leach phenotype, nor does the antibody react with sialidase-treated red blood cells, indicating a sialic acid-dependent epitope (4).
